Clinical Significance of Determining Serum Total Sialic Acid in Malignant Patients

urpose〕To investigate clinical significance of total sialic acid (TSA) in malignant patients.〔Methods〕TSA in patients with various cancer were determined by colorimetric method.〔Results〕The serum TSA level of cancer group was much higher than that of normal controls. There was significantly difference between positive rate and mean of serum TSA in patients with cancer and normal controls(P0.05).It showed that the positive rate and mean value in esophageal cancer was 69.6%,0.216;lung cancer,71.4%,0.196;ovarian cancer,69.6%,0.216,cervical cancer,71.6%,0.169;normal control,3.3%,0.154.〔Conclusion〕Serum level of TSA may be considered as a indicator for early diagnosis for cancers.
