The Direction of Integrating Reference Frames and Sex-related Difference in Cardinal Direction Judgments

ZHOU Rong-gang,ZHANG Kan (Institute of Psychology,Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101,China)
With 4(camera heading)×4(target location)×2(gender)×2(type of cardinal direction judgments) experimental design, this research focused on cardinal direction judgments(CDJ) in coordinating the environmental reference frame of a map with egocentric reference frame of the forward field of view(FFOV). Camera heading effect (north advantage effect, cardinal direction advantage effect) and target location effect were confirmed, the pattern of process time was:top-bottomleft-right, also CDJ based on environmental reference in integrating reference frames was distinctly harder than CDJ based on FFOV.And there was a significant interaction between CDJ and gender: for CDJ based on environmental reference, men's performance was better than women's; for CDJ based on FFOV,sex-related difference was not significant.
