Observation and Analysis of Pedestrian Flow Under Time Pressure

By means of digital video-camera, manual timing and questionnaire, a field survey is conducted on pedestrian flow in Northeastern University in Shenyang. The crowded pedestrian flow velocity in a 90 degree curvilinear passage and downstairs are observed and analyzed. The relationship between pedestrian's walk velocity and flow density are investigated as well. The partial pedestrian flow velocity decreasing coefficient on curvilinear road and downstairs is deduced thereby. The result of this study fills the gaps on human flow in China, and will surely provide scientific references for the performance based fire safety research field, as well as the crowd accident prevention and control in large scale evacuation in building.
