This article investigated the bold Chinese font styles in control panels for airplane cockpits. Ten bold fonts in common use were adopted and made up to forty-five couples which were selected in the study. One hundred and fifty-three active pilots took part in the survey. After two-two comparing, the pilots were needed to recommend two bold fonts which were considered by themselves to be suitable for the control panel character symbols. According to the investigative results, three bold Chinese font styles were recommended which were up to the pilots' use demands and visual preference. They were the No.5, No.1 and No.2 bold font styles. This result provided a referenced evidence for the selection of the control panel character symbols in the airplane cockpits.
