Usability Study of the Optimization of Flat Interactive Elements Based on Eye-movement Tracking

Objective It aims to study the usability of optimized flat interactive elements on web interface that include button,icon and text link and further confirms optimization effects. Methods Firstly,we redesign the flat interactive elements through adding the subtle visual effect and set them as the experimental group,and the original flat interactive as the anchoring group. Then,three groups of users were recruited and asked to conduct responding tasks.Meanwhile,eye-movement tracking data were collected. Results Compared to flat interactive button,the flat button with the optimized shadow effect and circular button has significant advantage on search and identification efficiency and accuracy( P 0. 05). The text link with color or both color and underline has significant advantage over flat text link on search and identification efficiency and accuracy( P 0. 05). Conclusion It was suggested that adding subtle visual effect to given flat interactive element can effectively enhance the efficiency of users' discovery and perception,reduce the interactive cost and optimize the usability of interface. The current research may offer strong support to the optimization of flat interactive design in the future.
