Research on Model Construction of Online College English Writing Formative Assessment

With taking Juku-Pigai as online automated essay scoring tool, "Three-phase and Nine-time Assessment Model" of online college English writing is constructed based on the principles of computer-assisted college English teaching and formative assessment.The model consists of three phases which are "Initial version", "Revised version" and "Final version".In the first phase,students respectively submit their first drafts on www.jukupigai.org,then the first autonomous assessment is available simultaneously.And peers also can read and review their classmates' drafts by logging in their corresponding class when surfing www.jukupigai.org.After finishing the two phases,the teacher makes a comprehensive evaluation of these drafts in referencing of the automated and peers' assessment.Students revise their drafts taking teacher's evaluation as the criterion with reference to assessments from websites and peers.Therefore,the writing undergoes four-time assessment in the first phase.Then students submit the revised editions and another four-time assessment is available again.Finally,the students submit the third edition after modification then the third automated assessment is obtained.Results of experimental research prove the model can not only offer simultaneously assessment for online college English writing and relieve teachers' burden,but also help stimulate students' writing.
