Entering a New Era: History Achievements, Challenges and Reform Strategies of Information Technology Education in Primary and Secondary Schools of China

As a young member of the primary and secondary curriculum system, Information Technology(IT) is continuously enriched and improved with social development and technological progress. The article reviewed the development history of IT education in China and summarized three stages, including the early computer education, computer application education, and IT education. Each phase has its own different educational focus which reflects not only the technical development characteristics but also the IT education value orientation, thus leaving a deep imprint on the development of IT curriculum at each stage. The paper analyzes the current situation of the development of IT education in primary and secondary school in China from aspects of IT teaching conditions, faculty and discipline integration. Meanwhile, the policy orientation of IT education reform is proposed based on the challenges of IT education in the new era.
