Applying Derivative-free Restricted Maximum Likelihood to Analyze Heterosis

A test of 4×4 complete diallel cross was conducted,and two slaughter tests were conducted at 8 and 14 weeks of age.According to heterosis ratio,five traits breast muscle,leg muscle,wing weight,eviscerated weight and abdomen fat,7 crosses showed heterosis at 8 weeks of age and 11 crosses showed heterosis at 14 weeks of age.The data of 5 traits was analyzed with derivative-free restricted maximum likelihood (DFREML).The results showed that the pure line of Avian had higher general combine ability (GCA) than other breeds,however,special combine ability (SCA) of crosses in which the Avian took part was less than others.The expression of heterosis was affected by much factor.The obvious difference of SCA between 8 and 14 weeks of age can explain that epistatic effects plays an important role during the form of heterosis.
