Effects of treatment with ceftiofur on the main pathogenic microflora in milk from cows with subclinical mastitis

The effects of treatment with ceftiofur on the main pathogenic microflora in milk from cows with subclinical mastitis were compared and analyzed by bacterial isolation and high-throughput sequencing techniques. The results showed that after 5 to 10 days of treatment,the effective rate was 68. 75% (11/16),but the cure rate was only 18. 75% (3/16). Streptococcus agalactiae,yeast and Staphylococcus aureus were the main pathogens in the pre-treatment milk,accounting for 33. 33% (6/18),27. 78% (5/18) and 16. 67% (3/18) of the isolate strains,respectively. The main pathogen in the milk after treatment was yeast,with a ratio of 58. 33% (7/12),followed by E. coli (16. 67%) and Streptococcus (16. 67%). There was no significant difference between the main fungal micro flora in milk before and after treatment. And the three major fungal gengera were Candida (63. 01%),Meyerozyma (25. 15%) and Debaryomyces (5. 73%). Therefore,ceftiofur was not effective enough for the treatment of chronic subclinical mastitis on the dairy farm,probably due to the proliferation of fungi,especially yeast,after antibacterial treatment.
