Treatment of thoracolumbar fracture by lateral approach for invasive interbody fusion combined with posterior short segment fixation

Objective To observe the curative effects of lateral approach for minimally invasive interbody fusion combined with posterior short segment fixation on thoracolumbar fractures. Methods 48 patients with thoracolumbar fractures hospitalized between February 2013 and November 2013 were enrolled in the study and equally divided into two groups according to the paired grouping method. Control group was given pedicle screw short segment fixation combined with posterolateral bone fusion, while the observation group was given lateral approach for minimally invasive interbody fusion combined with posterior short segment fixation. Both groups had been followed up for 12 months. Their curative effects were compared. Results 12 months after the operation, the ratios of the leading and the posterior edge height in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the Cobb angle was smaller than that of the control group(P 0.05). The recovery of neurological function in the observation group was significantly better than that in the control group(P 0.05). There was no significant difference between the preoperative and postoperative JOA scores of the two groups(P 0.05). 12 months after the operation, the JOA scores of the observation group were larger than those of the control group(P 0.05). Conclusion The curative effects of lateral approach for minimally invasive interbody fusion combined with posterior short segment fixation on thoracolumbar fractures are better, and vertebral stability is better. Nervous function recovery condition is better. It has important clinical value.
