Effects of intrathecal injection chemotherapy on prevention and treatment of central nervous system leukemia complications

Objective To study the clinical effects of intrathecal injection chemotherapy on the prevention and treatment of central nervous system leukemia(CNSL) complications. Methods 95 cases of leukemia were divided into observation group(50 cases)and control group(45 ones) according to the treatment methods. The observation group was treated by intrathecal injection with methotrexate(MTX) plus dexamethasone, while the control group was treated by routine induction, consolidation chemotherapy, and maintenance therapy. Comparison was made in the clinical curative effects, the changes of indexes like WBC, NSE, β2-MG, and PLT,the safty of intrathecal injection, and the incidence of neurological complications between the two groups. Results The total remission rate of the observation group was 94.00% which was significantly higher than that of the control group(71.11%)(P 0.05). There were 5 case of CNSL in the observation group, accounting for 10.00%, while there were 12 cases of CNSL in the control group,accounting for 26.67%. There were significant differences between the two groups(P 0.05). A year after the treatment, the WBC,NSE and β2-MG in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P 0.05). PLT of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P 0.05). Conclusion Intrathecal injection chemotherapy for patients with leukemia can reduce the incidence of neurological complications, enhance the clinical curative effects, and improve the white blood cell count, platelet count, and other indicators. It is safe and reliable and of high value in clinical application.
