Effects of propofol and sevoflurane on immune function in patients with radical resection of gastric cancer

Objective To explore the Effects of propofol and sevoflurane on immune function in patients with radical resection of gastric cancer. Methods A total of 58 patients who underwent elective radical resection of gastric cancer and were at ASA gradeⅡ-Ⅲ were selected and were randomly divided into propofol group(group P) and sevoflurane group(group S)(n=29, respectively).Group P was treated with target controlled infusion of propofol 1.5-2.0 μg/(kg·h). Group S inhaled 2%-3% sevoflurane; and finally,the concentration of sevoflurane was maintained at 0.4-1 MACP. The postoperative recovery in the two groups was recorded. The T lymphocyte subsets, B lymphocytes, NK cells, interleukin 6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α) at 30 min before anesthesia(T0), immediately at the end of operation(T1), postoperative 24 h(T2) and postoperative 72 h(T3) were determined. Results The time of opening eyes, time of spontaneous breathing and extubation time in group P were significantly shorter than those in group S(P 0.05); the T lymphocyte subsets, B lymphocytes and NK cells in the two groups at T1 and T2were significantly lower than those at T0(P 0.05). There were no significant differences in group P at T3(P 0.05). At T3, those in group S decreased significantly(P 0.05); the T lymphocyte subsets and NK cells in group P at different time points were significantly higher than those in group S(P 0.05). There was no significant difference in B cells(P 0.05); the IL-6 and TNF-α in the two groups at T1 and T2were significantly higher than those at T0(P 0.05) but gradually decreased; IL-6 and TNF-α in group P at different time points were significantly lower than those in group S(P 0.05). Conclusion Compared with sevoflurane, the recovery effect of propofol applied in anesthesia of radical resection of gastric cancer is better and it can reduce the inhibition effect of immune function.
