Effects of donepezil and galanthamine on improvement of cognitive function of AD patients

Objective To observe the effects of donepezil and galanthamine on improvement of cognitive function of AD patients.Methods A total of 200 AD patients admitted into our hospital were randomly selected and divided by drugs administrated into two groups:the control group(n=100) was administered with galanthamine and the observation group(n=100) with donepezil.The clinical effects,intelligence level(MMSE scores),quality of life(ADL scores),AD rating scale-cognition(ADASCog) scores and adverse reactions in the two groups three months after the treatment were compared.Results The post-treatment intelligence level(MMSE scores) and quality of life(ADL scores) in the two groups had no statistical significance(P 0.05); the post-treatment memory,attention,calculative ability and recall ability in the two groups improved greatly(P 0.05); there was no significant difference between the skill of orienteering and linguistic competence before and after the treatment(P 0.05).The ADASCog scores in the two groups after the treatment were lower than those before the treatment; the ADASCog scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P 0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups had no statistical difference(P 0.05).Conclusion Bothe donepezil and galanthamine can significantly improve the cognitive function of AD patients and both are high safe.However,donepezil has better effects on the improvement of the memory,attention,calculative ability and recall ability of patients.
