The characteristics of annual translocation,storage and remotoilization of 14C-labeled assimilates in day-lily were investigated. At the spring-seedding stage, the leaves seemed to be most active in assimilation and least amount of the assimilates was formd to be exported to other parts of the plant. They were a center of growth and of nutrient partitioning as well. At the bolting stage,the leaves' ability to assimilate was weakened, greater percentage of the assimilates was transported from the leaves to the bolt and thus made the bolt a growth center. At the flower bud stage, the buds became very competative for assimilates and few assimilates were retained in the leaves. It was a critical period for a higher yield. At the stage of nutrient storage,the assimilates were mainly transported to the fleshy roots. The accumulation of carbon assimilates in the fleshy roots was maximum during the dormant period.
