A Study of Adsorption of Mercury Ions by Chlorella

One alga separated and purified from natural water-body was identified as Chlorella by cytomorphological and microscopic examination. The effect of experimental conditions on the adsorption of Chlorella to mercury ion was examined and the optimal conditions were obtained. Moreover,the adsorption characteristics of Chlorella to mercury ion were studied. The results showed that Chlorella has strong biosorption capacity to mercury ion,and the adsorption behavior can be described by Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal adsorption equations,the latter equation being the better.
