BRACHIOPOD SEQUENCE AROUND THE LOWER-MIDDLE DEVONIAN BOUNDARY FROM YANMENBA OF MT. LONGMEN, SICHUAN

Den Tao (Department of Geological Exploration)
Four brachiopod zones are divided in the member of section at Yanmenba of Mt. Longmen. According to the prnciple of modern stratigraphy, the Lower-Middle Devonian boundary is drawn in the Euryspirifer yanmenbaensis-Xenospirifer fongi Zone at the top of the Ganxi Formation, and the first appearance of Xenospirifer fongi is regarded as a sign. This boundary corresponds to the international bounbary-stratotype. A method is put forward to define a boundary between chronostratigraphic units in a region without indicated fossil zones. It is proved that the sedimentary environment is a muddy shelf in the section member. Four new bracniopod species are described.
