THE PRINCIPLE OF GROWTH AND DECLINE OF CITRUS RED MITE(Panonychus citri McGregor) IN FIELD

From 1977 to 1981, the site-fixed and position-fixed investigations on citrus red mite (Panonychus citri McGregor) was conducted. The results showed that, in Jiangjin region,citrus red mite could multiply 16 generations in a year, and could display two damaging peaks in summer or late autumn. The summer peak was a common sight and the amount of citrus red mite was the largest, while the late autumn peak could appear only under the dry condition that the rainfall was small in autumn. Generally speaking, the spring-summer rage-reproducing period of citrus red mite on Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis L.Osbesk)appeared from the middle ten days of April to the first ten days of June, the peak-reproducing period from the middle ten days to the last ten days of May; but the peak-reproducing period on Satsuma Orange (Citrus reticulata Blanco) appeared 4-40 days later than on Sweet Orange.In addition,the period and the places of over-summering of citrus red mite, the colour and the body shape of over-summering citrus red mite were observed; and the relationship between the over-surnmering of citrus red mite and high temperature, the relationship between the reproducing and climatic factors, the relationship between the base number of overwintering mite and the appearence of the damaging peak as well as the kinds of natural enemy and their behavioural features were studied. According to the principle of growth and decline of citrus red mite, the author proposed an idea for control of it.
