EFFECTS OF A NEW METHOD OF GROWING RICE SEEDLING ON SOME BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERS

A new cultivating rice seedling system of growing rice seedling in droughty nursery and irrigating before transplantirg was cempared with that in wet-and uplandnursery.The results showed that the new system had better biological effects on rice seedling.Such as the roots were flcurishing, its number was more by 23%, the rate of white root was over 75.7% and its number is 2.3 times as more as others, the vigour of roots was strong so its growth rate of new roots was adove 142.3%, the reviying tects wee 1.6 times as others.Moreover, the green leaves number, thickness and weight of leaves,the water contents of exised leaves for 24 hrs.all were higher.The contents of dry-matter in seedling was more by 1/3. The seedlings were very healthy so it had not starting growth phase.As its drought resistance was strong and the elastic coefficient of seedling age was bigger, thus the yield reduced less in adverse growing conditions.Compared with the growing rice seedling in upland nursery the number and dried weight of roots, the rate of white roots by means of the new system were all higher, in addition,the grov/th rate of seedling was faster,the dry-matter in it was raised up to 2 times. To sum up the new system is a useful technology for growing rice seedling and having a broad prospects in utilization
