BREEDING GENERAL RESTORER IN HYBRID RICE USING SPECIAL ACCUMULATIVE MODEL

Rice general restorer is very important in the utilization of subspecific heterosis between indica and japonica. A special accumulative model (SAM) designed by ourselves was conducted to develop general restorer in hybrid rice breeding program. In terms of SAM, we have developed the general restorer Possessing restoration and compatibility which can apply to indica/indica or japonica/japonica, indica/japonica or japonica/indica: two-line method or three-line method hybrid rice. Japo-nica general restorer is suitable to indica/japonica or japonica/japonica and indica general restorer applicable to japonica/indica or indica/indica hybrid rice. The range of utilizing male sterile line is expanded with the general restorers. It is verv useful to the improvement of three-line method and the transit of three-line method to two-line method; and also helpful to the promotion of varietal hybridrice and the transit of varietal hybrid rice to subspecific hybrid rice so that actively and reliably realize the developing strategy suggested by professor Yuan Longping from three-line method to two-line method, and then one-line method; from varietal hybrid rice to subspecific hybrid rice, and then distant hybrid rice.
