The quality evaluation of wild barley germplasm resources in Tibet

wild barley samples collected in Tibet were measured for their main nutrition component using state standardized method(GB5006 85)complemented with near infrared and amino acid analysis.74 high protein accessions,109 high lysine accessions and 24 low protein/high starch content accessions were selected as potential parents for quality improvement breeding.For all entries measured,the deviations between average value of sample groups with different row number,grain color or caryopsis type (husked or naked) were much less than that between individual samples.The result also showed:(i)2 rowed barley had higher protein and lysine contents than 6-rowed accessions and the starch content was just contrary to that.(ii)Original place contributed less to quality.(iii)Black grain accessions had higher protein and lysine contents than yellow,green and violet grain accessions.(iv)Naked accessions had higher starch content than husked accessions.The relationships between each components and types of row and caryopsis were analyzed and the association of starch content to evolution of barley was also discussed.
