Studies on the genetic law of parent selection of plant type breeding in maize

The inheritance and its correlation between parents and F 1 for some plant type characters,the genetic law of parent selection of plant type breeding in maize were studied with the Griffings method Ⅱ.The results indicated that the inheritance ability of plant type characters in different parents had significant difference,and the combining ability of same character but in different parents or each character of same parent were significant difference.The inheritance and combining ability of the target characters should be considered in selecting maize plant type to increase the efficiency of breeding.The results also revealed that its two parents should be compact type when combining compact type hybrid;one of its two parents should be compact or half compact type when combining half compact type hybrid.Horizontal leaf type parents could only produce horizontal leaf type hybrid.
