Soil Nutrient Status in Mulberry Plantations in Calcareous Purple Soil Region of Sichuan Basin

Nanchong city,located in the central hilly region of the calcareous purple soils in Sichuan Basin,is the major silk worm and mulberry base in Sichuan province.In order to in-depth investigate the best nutrient management for mulberry plantations in the region,75 representative mulberry plantations from the region were selected to evaluate the soil nutrient status in the soil profiles at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm depths.The result showed that the overall soil fertility was relatively low,with 1.37 % and 1.11 % of soil organic matter,0.73 and 0.52 g·kg-1 of total N,12.25 and 6.82 mg·kg-1 of available P,and 7.26 and 0.53 mg·kg-1 of available Zn at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm depths,respectively.Boron was the most deficient element in mulberry soil,while the Ca,Mg and S were relatively sufficient.
