WIDE COMPATIBILITY OF FIVE AMERICAN RICE VARIETIES AND PEDIGREE ANALYSIS

Five wide compatibility rice varieties including Belle Patna, New bonnet, Nortai,Saturn and Vegold with low intensity of wide compatibility and special compatibility were screened from American rice varieties. The pedigree analysis indicated that the genetic bases of these five varieties mainly derived from Indict varieties-Pachain of China,Marong Paroc of Philipine and Japonica varieties-UNJP of Japan, Colusa of China and other cultivars, meaning these five varieties were related to Indica rice from China and Philipines, Japonica rice from Japan. These varieties have some. unfavourable agronomic characteristcs,especially low number of effective panicle per plant. It is essential,therefore, to make further study on the feature and mechanism of wide compatibility of American varieties.
