Exploring the Influences of Prehistoric Eastern and Western Populations on Xinjiang from the Angle of Genetics

Li Chunxiang;
Xinjiang,as an important channel of communication between Eastern and Western populations,has played a significant role in the history of human movements.The exact time and the extent of influences of prehistoric Eastern and Western populations on Xinjiang have always been the hot topics in the scientific community.Ancient DNA is very important to shed light on these questions.Recently,with the development of the DNA technology,the ancient DNA studies for Xinjiang and its surrounding areas have achieved some progress,and provide the scientific data for tracing the influences of prehistoric Eastern and Western populations on this region.In this paper,we review the genetic data of ancient populations in Xinjiang and its surrounding areas obtained in recent years and explore the influences of Eastern and Western populations on the genetic structure of the ancient populations of Xinjiang.Based on the archaeological and anthropological data,we make a reasonable prediction for the origin of Xinjiang Iron and Bronze Age populations and their migration patterns,and make a direction for the future research on the origin of Xinjiang populations.
