Economic society and religious society in Biography of Milarepa

Biography of Milarepa narrates the lifetime of Milarepa, the Buddha of Kagyupa Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in 11th century. The biography aims to demonstrate the way for Milarepa toward extrication and strive for Buddha, while simultaneously recording in a way of literature the Tibetan folk economy and religious life in 11th and 12th century, during which time Buddhism gradually founded its great position in Tibetan society. The biography describes the living conditions for both secular and holy layers, reflecting to some extent the influence and choice of economic society toward religious society, revealing the key factor for Buddhism replacing Bon-religion and eventually rooting Tibetan society.
