The Desecration of Tibetan Imperial Tumuli in the tenth Century

Following the fall of King Lang Darma in 842,the Imperial necropolis of‘Phong rgyas was subject to "clandestine excavations"conducted by members of the local aristocracy.Based on archaeological evidence,historical sources,and the latest research conducted on imperial tumuli,I intend to discuss the organised desecration and possible looting of some of the royal tombs as well as the reasons why Srong btsan sgam po and Mon srong's mounds were left partly unspoilt.
