Photos from Zhuan Xueben's field trip to Xi Kang in 1930s preserved valuable information on Xi Kang women's unique facial make-up custom.According to historical material and literature both in Tibetan and Chinese, this unique custom which is called"Zhe Mian"has been existing since Tubo kingdom period. In 20th century, this unique custom of facial make-up appeared also on the coffin painting of Tubo tomb discovered in Qinghai Dulan area.I believe that this custom of"Zhe Mian"was popular among Xi Kang women and in nomadic area of north Tibet which shows close relationship with ancient Dong Clan.
