The Construction of General Path to Second Language Acquisition and Its Implications

China is a country with the largest population of second language learners in the world.Based on Kristen's "Input Hypothesis" and Swain's "Output Hypothesis",the general pattern of language acquisition is inferred: Input → Input Filter →Valid Input→Output Filter →Output.However,in different language contexts,two basic modes may appear in periodical language acquisition: the Input-oriented Mode and the Output-oriented Mode.A probe into the two modes and their relationship may determine the general path to second language acquisition,which will exert positive influence on both English teaching and English learning.The construction of the general path to second language acquisition may help to improve second language teaching activities,perfect language acquisition examination system,and provide reference for the choice of appropriate learning strategies,thus finally enhancing the acquisition efficiency of second language learners and promoting their language abilities.
