ANODIC INTERCALATION AND OVER—OXIDATION OF CARBON AND GRAPHITE.IREACTIONSIN THICK SULFURIC ACID

Carbon-polypropylene(CPP),which is made from the mixture of natural graphite and polypropylene through hot pressing,as an anodic ac- tive matter is intercalated and over-oxidied in thick sulfuric acid ele- ctrolyte with the cyclic voltammetre methode and the galvanostatic meth- ode.In the region of intercalation,the oxidation(intercalation)and the reduction(deintercalation)are basically reversible,but in the region of overoxidation,the reversibility of the reactions become worse and the different between the oxido-reduction peak potential coupples also be- comes greater.A graphite oxidate,like C_(2.7)A which has a oxidisability of 0.37,is formed by oxidating of CPP.The Reaction possesses a certain reversibility.
