Study on the Traction Performance for the Driving wheel of Lunar Rover

It is very important to study the traction performance of the lunar rover on lunar surface environment for guaranteeing the normal exploration on the moon.We simulated lunar soil for the lunar-terramechanic test,developed the soil bin test equipment and designed a variety of wheels.The traction test was carried on in the soil bin equipment,and it showed that the max.DP of the rug-wheel is 5.2 times as that of the smooth-wheel,and the DP of the driving wheel tested in the stimulant lunar soil is 1/6.7 times as that of the driving wheel tested on the hard pavement when the slip ratio is 10 percent.Based on experiment results,the DEM simulation was used to analyze the microcosmic relationship between the driving wheel and lunar soil particles.The force,velocity and displacement of the particles under the wheel,and the traction performance of the driving wheel without pulling resistance,were simulated.According to the results,the rug-wheel has better traffic ability than the smooth-wheel,but the rug-wheel needs more power.The research provides an essential method and basic data for the performance evaluation of the lunar rover and the development of walking mechanism with high passing ability on the lunar environment.
