Integrated Design of Aerodynamic and Stealthy Performance Based on Parametric CAD Model

An approach was proposed for fusion of CAD software and aerodynamic/stealthy integrated design of flight vehicles.The steps of the approach are:(1) parametric description for the geometry of flight vehicles,(2) automatic generation of three dimension CAD model using the API of CAD software,(3) extraction of specific data from the CAD model for use of aerodynamic and radar cross section analysis,and(4) integrated design of aerodynamic and stealthy performance using the multi-objective optimization.An integrated design problem for a blended wing body aircraft was used to illustrate the detail process of the approach.The advantages of fusion of CAD software into aerodynamic/stealthy multidisciplinary design optimization were identified as followings:(1) the accurate modeling ability of CAD software was utilized to generate the 3-D model;(2) the parametric CAD model provided an unified model for aerodynamic analysis and Radar Cross Section(RCS) calculation;(3) the associative geometric information(such as volume,surface area,etc) can be easily obtained during design optimization;(4) final results obtained from the optimization is directly presented as 3-D CAD model.All these features make the approach more practical in real design problems.
