Detection of quinolone resistance of 87 Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains in Hefei

Objective To investigate quinolone resistance of N.gonorrhoeae strains in Hefei. Methods 87 N.gonorrhoeae samples were collected. Their drug resistance to quinolones was determined using K-B method and Agar diffuse method. Results K-B method showed that drug resistance of the 87 N.gonorrhoeae strains against the four fluoroquinolones was similar. 9 (10.34%) strains were sensitive; 22~24 (25.28%~27.58%) were less sensitive; and 54~56(62.08%~64.38%)were resistant. Agar diffuse method showed that drug resistance of the 87 N.gonorrhoeae strains to ciprofloxacin was as follows. 9(10.34%) strains were sensitive. 20(23.00%) were less sensitive. 12(13.79%) were resistant; and 46(52.87%) were highly resistant. Conclusion N.gonorrhoeae resistance against fluoroquinolones in Hefei area is common and this merits adequate attention.
