THE STUDY OF POLYMER NETWORK STABILIZED FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL

お monomer with reactive diacrylate was mixed with a commercial ferroelectric liquid crystal(FLC)mixture and polymerized under UV irradiation with electric field application(±50V,5Hz) to obtain polymer networks stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystals(PNSFLC)Optical and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were used to study the molecule texture and the polymer networks structure The electro-optic characteristics of PNSFLC cell was also measured A novel “V” shape EO curve was obtained so it is easier to get more gray scales than the conventional SSFLCD The polymer network formed in SmC* phase is anisotropic and fibril-like Furthermore it is found that a new type texture -the striped texture was observed in the PNSFLC cells We explained the phenomenon with the elastic free energy theory in the Sc* phase。 
