ORIENTATION EFFECTS OF LIQUID CRYSTAL MOLECULARS UNDER ELECTRIC FIELD IN PDLC FILM

お PDLC composite film with different droplet sizes dispersed separately in polymer matrix has been fabricated The variable textures in those LC droplets under suitable electric field have been observed by using a polarizer microscopy in real time Those textures yielded information about the process of liquid crystal moleculars orientation dynamics within droplets Results show that when the applied voltage was decreased from its saturated value, LC moleculars within different size droplets will present different orientation effects, ie LC droplet larger than dozens of micrometers will present strong orientation hysteresis effects, while the hysteresis effects will be down when the size of LC droplets is in the range of micro-meter The LC orientation hysteresis within droplets just reflect the results of optical transmission hysteresis in PDLC film From the action of related energy , some factors which influence LC molecular orientation effects , such as the interaction between LC droplet and the interface of polymer matrix, LC droplet shape, capacitance effects and ambient temperature are discussed
