The dependence of nematic liquid crystals on external static electric field is discussed by the statistical theory method The result shows that the induced orientional order parameter, birefringence and the change of the nematic-isotropic phase transition temperature are function of the even power of the electric field strength, and is proportional to the square of the electric field strength at low electric fields
