Acoustic Emission Testing of Pressure Vessels during Hydrostatic Test in Nuclear Power Plant

Reactor pressure vessel and pressure stabilizer are the main equipment of nuclear power plant,and are the pressure boundary of the first loop and the second nuclear safety barrier. During regular hydrostatic tests,it is impossible to examine the welds on above locations by conventional visual inspection method because of narrow space and high environmental exposure in these locations,which brings very big hidden dangers to the safe operation of nuclear power plant. The use of acoustic emission testing technology to conduct dynamic,real-time and online monitoring of the main equipment of nuclear power plants is an effective means to ensure the integrity of the main equipment and prevent the weld failure of the main equipment. This paper introduces the main components,functions and corresponding testing techniques of acoustic emission testing system for nuclear power plant,and by field examination,the effectiveness of the system and technology was verified,which plays a key role in determining the conditions for safe use of the pressure equipment.
