Progress of clinical application of mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of Crohn's disease

Crohn's disease(CD) is a inflammatory,chronic,lifelong disease disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract.It is one type of inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD),and its pathogenesis is not very clear at present.But generally it is considered related to immune,genetic,environmental,and other infections.The current drugs used for IBD mainly are the drugs that suppress inflammation and regulate the immunity.They have some limitations and many side effects.In recent years,stem cell therapy gradually got into the line of sight of the researchers,become a hot topic of current research.Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have become one of the most promising therapies for the treatment of Crohn's disease because of its strong ability of self replication and differentiation,as well as the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses.This article reviews the clinical application of mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of CD.
