The effect of insulin resistance on cognitive impairment in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome

Objective To explore the effect of insulin resistance on cognitive impairment in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome.Methods One hundred and thirty-five elderly patients with metabolic syndrome were divided into two groups;cognitive impairment group(case group,n = 60) and non-cognitive impairment group(control group,n = 75),gender,age,cultural level,BMI,SBP,DBP,TG,LDL-C,SCr,FPG and HOMA-IR were compared between the two groups,and logistic regression was analyzed.Results Compared to the control group,the cultural level of cognitive impairment group was lower,the level of BMI was higher,and the HOMA-IR were higher(P 0.01).In the logistic regression cultural level and HOMA-IR were independent factors.Conclusion The cultural level and HOMA-IR were independent factors of cognitive.Insulin resistance has an effect on the cognitive impairment in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome.
