Effect of Semantic Orientation of Verbs on Long-distance Anaphora of Chinese Reflexive "ziji"

ZHENG Zhong1,LIU Zhen-qian2(1.School of Foreign Languages,Shandong Institute of Light Industry,Jinan 250353,China;2.School of Foreign Languages,Shandong University,Jinan 250100,China)
Long-distance(LD) anaphora is regarded as a feature of Chinese reflexive "ziji" on which linguists have conducted many studies to explore its constraints and conditions from the syntactical, semantic and pragmatic perspectives. This paper proposes a new idea of semantic orientation of verbs for the explanation of the LD anaphora of "ziji" on the basis of the analysis of the example sentences that are used by those linguists to demonstrate their own theories.
