ABrief Discussion ofthe Features of Chinese Traditional Folk Customs

In the studies of ancient social life and folk customs,students usually focus their attention on the discription ofspecificobjects butoverlookthestudiesoftheir generalfeatures.In fact,the studies of the foundamental features of Chinese traditional customs are important in grasping the deepstructuresofthecustomsand theirevolutionthroughtheseemingly complicated appearance ofobjects. This thesisreveals the four basic features of conditioning the evolution of Chinesefolk customs:theretentions ofthe pimitive beliefs,the profoundinfluencesofpatriarchal ideas,the differences existing in various races and regions and their continuity and changes. Thesefeatures played and are playing important rolesin the evolution of Chinese traditonalfolk customs.
