The Relationship between Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Bronchial Asthma Attack

Objective:To study the relationship between the respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) infection and bronchial asthma, attack. Methods: The specific IgG antibodies were tested in sera of 44 cases of bronchial asthma with indirect ELISA. Results: Among the 44 cases,20 (45% ) were infected by RSV,5 from 13 febrile cases were infected by RSV,2 from 9 cases subjected recurrently to asthma attack were infected by RSV, too. Among the 2 cases 1 was hospitalized 2 times within half a year because of asthma attack, and another was attacked by asthma 3 times within a year.They were all infected by RSV.4/17 cases showed evidence of positive reaction to RSV in spring and summer, and 16/27 cases were positive to RSV in autumn and winter (X2 = 5.34, P 0.05) . Conclusion: There is a close relationship between the asthma attack and RSV infection. The asthma mechanism is concerned with virus infection and injury to the lower respiratory tracts and reduction of immune function of the body. regulating function.
