Effect of Adrenomedullin on Hypoxia-induced Pulmonary HyPertention and Cor Pulmonale

Objective:To study the effect of adrenomedullin(ADM) on hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertention(HPH) and cor pulmonale. Method: There were four groups: the HPH group, the group of cor pulmonale patients at acute stage, the group of cor pulmonale patients at stable stage and the normal control group. The levels of serum ADM were measured.Results: The levels of serum ADM were significantly higher in the HPH group than in the normal control group ( P 0.002).The ADM contents were increased in the group of cor pulmonale patients both at acute stage and at stable stage than that of the normal control group ( P 0.001). The levels of serum ADM were lower in the group of cor pulmonale patients at stable stage than that at acute stage ( P 0.001). Conclusion: ADM was participated in the forming process of HPH. The raising of serum ADM in cor pulmonale may be an active regulation against pulmonary pressure. With the alleviating of condition, the pulmonary pressure is reduced; the ADM content is reduced too.
