Analysis of verification results of intensity-modulated radiation therapy for 2887 cases and its effect in quality control

Objective: To analyze the reason that verification plan could not be approved and its effect in the quality control according to the verification result of intensity-modulated radiation therapy(IMRT). Methods: The intensity modulated plans of 2887 patients pre-radiotherapy were carried out verification analysis. These nonapproved intensity modulated plans were carried out classified statistic as type of error, and the reasons were counter calculated according to statistical discrepancy and quality control results of accelerator. Results: 2838 cases of the 2887 cases were passed, and the qualified rate was 98.30%. Under the quality control of same standard, the qualified rates of one accelerator pre and post resurveying data were 96.92% and 99.24%, respectively. And the amount of non-approved plans, which reason was that the optimal result of single treatment planning system(TPS) was poor, were 16.33% in all of non-approved intensity-modulated plans. Conclusions: Based on ensuring the consistency of calculated dose of TPS and exposure dose of patients, the verification of IMRT pre-radiotherapy can more contribute to the comprehensive quality control for accelerator and radiotherapy process.
