The Progress in Islet Transplantation

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high glucose level,which result from defects in insulin secretion,or action,or both.Diabetes mellitus can lead to multiple organ lesion in late stage.As we know,insulin administration having promoted the quality of the patients markedly can not prevent the processes and developments of all kinds of the diabetic complications.Only building endogenous insulin secretion system can heal the diabetes mellitus.Although the whole-organ pancreas transplants are relatively successful method,it is now less used because of its morbidity and bigger impairment.Increasingly importance has been attached to the islet transplantation because of the simplicity of operation,little injury,little complication and so on.Islet transplantation will become to the new shot in the endocrine field.
