The study of middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion on experimental animal model shows that matrix metalloproteases has an abnormal expression in cerebral ischemic and reperfusion.which indicates that MMPs is related to cerebral ischemic and reperfusion injury.Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases can inhibit the activity of MMPs,so the using of TIMPs can be a new method to treat the ischemic cerebrovascular diseases.
