Onset Characteristics of NOD Mice With Type-1 Diabetes

Type-1 diabetes is the result of autoimmune destruction of insulin-secreting pancreatic β cells,which leads to insulin absolutely deficiency and hyperglycemia.There is still no radicle cure method for that.Nonobese diabetic(NOD) mice spontaneously develop type-1 diabetes and are considered to be one of the best animal models for human insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.The mice of this strain have an unusual H-2 g7haplotype (Kd、I-A g7、I-E null、Db),show Insulitis and progressive destroy of beta cell of islet at 4~5 weeks of age and exhibit diabetic symptoms at 12 weeks of age.The cumulative incidence of the onset up to 30 weeks of age is 80% in females,but less than 20% in males.
