The Application of the Raman Spectroscopy in Jadeite Determination

In this paper,Renishaw inVia Reflex Raman spectrometer,with two switchable excitation lights(785nm and 514.5nm),was used to jadeites determination.Via natural jadeites,bleached and filled jadeites were tested by excitation light(514.5nm),it was found that Raman shifts 1036cm-1、986cm-1、696cm-1and 374cm-1 are proper for jadeite,and Raman shifts 777cm-1、1123cm-1、1611cm-1、2930cm-1and 3065cm-1 are due to epoxy-resin which was filled in jadeite,it was also found the existence of micro-cracks and within filling matter by microscope;Via green、white part of natural jadeite and green colored jadeite were tested by excitation light(785nm),contrasting and analyzing their Raman spectra,it was found that Cr3+ in crystal lattice of jadeite produce extremely strong fluorescence,however,weaker fluorescence was produced by coloring matter,thus much weaker Raman intensity was produced by colored jadeite than natural jadeite in same testing condition.Combining the advantages of two excitation lights,Raman technology could be used for jadeite determination non-destructively,quickly and accurately.
