Grammatical Meanings of "yi jing" and "ceng jing"

Based on the study of their semantic background, the article comparatively probes into the grammatical meanings of "yi jing" and "ceng jing". Hence the conclusion that "yi jing", with the semantic features [+continuance] and [+effect], stresses that the event stated in the sentence has happened prior to the statement, or an act, or a certain time, while "cengjing", with the seman- tic features [-continuances] and [-effect], stresses that the event stated in the sentence just hap- pened sometime in the past.
