The Psychological Status of "Word" in Contemporary Chinese as Evidenced from Speech Error Repairs

The psychological reality of "word" in Contemporary Chinese is examined from evi- dences of the repairs of the tongue-slips in Contemporary Chinese. Based on a division of total repair and local repair and a division of instant repair and delayed repair, the data analysis leads to the con- clusion that in the process of language production at least, the psychological status of "word" in Con- temporary Chinese is higher or equal to that of "morpheme".
