A Semantic Analysis of the Transitive Construction Containing a Quantified Noun Phrase and Its Implementation in NLP

Wu Ping, School of Foreign Language Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing 100083
Guided by the Principle of Compositionality, this paper concentrates on the semantic analysis of transitive constructions containing quantified noun phrases. It discusses four different for- mal semantic approaches to the description of this construction, with the first three approaches being achieved by means of type-raising and the last one by means of type re-arrangement. Based on one of the above approaches, as well as on the consideration of computational complexity, a practical com- puter-executable grammar is elaborated. for the purpose of the attainment of Prolog implementation.
